Welcome to Bitterli's Board

Bitterli's board is an image-based online bulletin board. Inspired by the popular image-board site 4chan, this strives to be a less toxic and modern version of the popular site while also retaining the simplistic nature in use and design. There are multiple different boards and threads to read across all kinds of different genres and topics. You can start reading today or create an account to join in on the conversation.
Below is a lot of information, please read carefully.
Reach out if there are any questions and have fun!

    Rules

All of these rules apply to each board on the website unless there is a specific board exception explicitly stated.
    1. Do not upload, post, discuss, request, or link to anything that violates local or United States law.
We are required by United States law to hand over any information about you; this includes usernames, emails and ip addresses, if the law is broken.
    2. You must be over the age of 16 in order to use the site in any capacity.
If you are under the age of 16 and we become aware of it, your account and IP address will be blocked from accessing this website.
Some boards require you to be 18 years or older to enter. These are noted with the "[NSFW]" tag next to the board name.
    3. No Loli/shota pornography, Anthropomorphic ("furry") pornography, Grotesque ("guro") images.
To be honest, I don't want to see that stuff so don't post it.
    4. Do not deliberately post personal identifiable information.
This includes legal names, phone numbers, email addresses, passwords, addresses, identification numbers, and so on; this is called doxxing.
While exceptions will be made to this rule, these exceptions are very rare and at the staff's discretion.
Posting already public doxxes is also not allowed, this isn't a personal information hosting site.
Posting doxxes of any kind will get your account banned and IP blocked.
    5. Avoid creating troll, spammy and racist content.
Just being a troll, posting spam and making racist comments will get your post removed
Spammy comments like text gibberish (sdgvasd...) or (trollollooollloo) type messages will most likely be removed.
Trying to have normal discussions here.
    6. No self advertising in messages.
This mainly applies to self promotion in messages or threads.
Feel free to add any social media links you want or talk yourself up on your own profile page.
I want to keep threads somewhat cohesive.
    7. No signatures on posts / do not use your avatar when making a post or reply
Once again trying to make threads be more readable.
    8. All boards are to be assumed to be SAFE FOR WORK unless specifically noted.
Content uploaded in these boards must follow accordingly to the board rules.
    9. Do not misreport.
Submitting false or misclassified reports, or otherwise abusing the reporting system may result in an account or IP ban.
    10. Impersonating staff may result in an account or IP ban.
Only users with the appropriate badges are staff, nobody else.
If you are caught impersonating staff, you will be shamed.
    11. Do not upload images containing additional data such as embedded sounds, documents, archives, etc.
      Images and text only.
Extra attachments need to be linked in your message.
    These are the rules.
If too many rules are broken, your account may be removed. If we catch you ban evading, your IP will be blocked. If you're unsure if what you're about to do breaks a rule, probably shouldn't do it. Fewel free to message a staff member with any questions or suggestions to the rules.

    Troubleshooting

Sometimes stuff happens. Below are tried and true methods to fix most issues on the website.

    Enable third-party browser cookies
We do use cookies for accounts as well as to remember what global messages you dismiss.

    Enable Javascript
While designing this website, Javascript was only used when absolutely necessary, more of a challenge than anything. Javascript is used to convert timestamps of messages from EST to your own timezone. Javascript is also used to add stickers to your post or reply body. Staff are required to have Javascript enabled as all staff functions are handled in Javascript. Visit https://www.enable-javascript.com/ for help with enabling Javascript.

    Check URLs
Sometimes stuff just gets changed or deleted. Make sure your URL is correct.

    Firewall Settings
Make sure the website is not blocked by your firewall or ISP. Probably isn't but worth a check.

    Still having issues?
If you tried and verified the steps above, reach out to a staff member with your issue. There's a good chance that there is something miscoded.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully this clears up any confusion. If it adds to your confusion, that stinks.

    What is this?
Bitterli's Board is a custom image-based bulletin board made by Bitterli. There are sub boards that pertain to various topics and themes, allowing users to engage in conversations with like-minded people. This website is inspired by the popular website 4chan, while expanding the idea by adding extra features and changing other features.

    Is this annonymous?
This website uses accounts, so no. It is as annonymous as you make it, meaning if you use the same username as everywhere else, people can look you up. Also, look below for a list of infomration tracked.

    What information is collected?
Tracking only applies to users who are logged in and making reports, regular guests are not tracked in any capacity unless reporting a message. Logged in users get basic information recorded with each login, logout, profile edit, and messages posted. Information logged includes ip addresses and other simple geographic information from your IP address; including country, country code, region, city, timezone, using mobile, using proxy, using hosting service. We do not share userdata with anyone, passwords are stored encrypted on our database. We do allow the use of VPNs, but we can see if your connection is a VPN or not. We are obligated by Unites States Law to provide any of this information when requested reasonably, transparency reports below.

    Where is your transparency report?
Here. Below is our tranparency report.
No requests! KEEP IT THIS WAY.

    Where are the boards?
All available boards are visible on the home page in the Boards section. Clicking on any link will open a catalog view of all posts that are active in that board alongside information and stats about the board.

    How do threads work?
A user creates a new post inside of a board, attaching an image and a message. Users can reply within the thread or to other messages in the thread. Each post can get up to 1000 messages before it is locked. Some boards hide posts at this limit while other boards keep these posts visible but locked. There is no way to view any deleted posts unless archived elsewhere, this is to maintain relevant and recent conversations at the top of the site.

    What is user reputation?
A user's reputation is the percentage of likes out of all reactions received. So a user with a score reputation of 75 means that for every 4 reactions received, 3 of them were likes, etc. User's self reactions are not included in calculation.

How do I make an account?
Click the 'Sign Up' button next to login link at the top right of the header. This will take you to a form to enter your email, username, password and birthday. Each of these fields are required.
You must be 18 years or older in order to make an account or use the site. The youngest allowed birthday is pre-filled out.

How do I make a thread?
You need to be logged into an account and have access in order to create a thread. Then when you navigate to the catalog-view of a board, a button will appear above the catalog to create a new thread. You need an image in order to post, since this is an image-based bulletin board. Thread titles are optional.

    How do I reply?
You need to be logged into an account and have access in order to reply. When viewing a thread, you will see reply buttons at the top and bottom of the page as well as reply buttons at the bottom of each message. Replying to a specific message will notify the person you?re replying to.

What image types do you support?
When attaching an image, only the file types that are allowed appear in the file input. Filetypes that are accepted are *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.png, *.gif, *.webp. Stickers allow uploads of *.svg. When uploading an image, all EXIF data is stripped while the image is uploading. A thumbnail (maximum width of 300px) is created alongside your image to allow faster loading.

How do I delete my own post or reply?
Options like that are restricted to moderators and admins. If you want to remove one of your own messages, please contact a staff member.

How do I report posts or replies?
You do NOT need an account to report a post or reply. If you believe any content uploaded by a user breaks our rules, press the 'report' button and fill out the form. Please select from one of the existing report categories and write a short description.

How do I know if I am banned?
There are two kinds of bans: an account ban and an IP ban. If your account is banned, you will not be able to log in anymore, and any messages and images you have posted will be removed. If your IP is banned, there will be no option to log in at all. You are still allowed to look at boards and posts if banned, just not interact with them.

    Can I appeal my ban?
If either your account or IP was banned, you can fill out the form here: /login?banned. If your account or IP is reinstated, you will get an email to the address provided with more details. If you do not hear back, you were probably rejected.

    What can staff do?
Moderators can edit and delete posts and replies. They can also modify the 'about' section on a user's profile, post in restricted boards, pin posts to the top, and ban users and IP addresses. Admins have more control; they can create user accounts and boards, edit board preferences, and modify user accounts.

How do I apply for staff?
Occasionally, a link will be posted in a site-wide announcement in the header if we are looking for more staff. We are not always looking for staff, so do not ask to become staff. Just wait for the message and form link to appear so you can apply.

That's all I have for now.
Feel free to reach out if there are any other questions.
